We live in a culture that has embraced the concept of “self” quite well! We are taught that if we have high self esteem that high self esteem will remedy our personal and ultimately most of our collective ills. Modern popular psychology since the late ’70’s/early ’80’s coined this term to define one’s own self concept and to provide an explanation for a lack of confidence, worth and assurance that one should have according to the world’s standards. The explanation of high self esteem and methods on how one could build self esteem in themselves and others was provided as a solution to societal ills. I have been sent to offer a more sound solution, one that will never be acknowledged in the journals of psychology. The awareness and concept of self is a matter of perception but the solution that this world deems as effective has proven nothing short of detrimental to an entire generation of people. For all of the talk of building self esteem and self worth; for ALL of the support groups, methods of teaching and concepts built around the concept of building one’s self esteem and one’s self worth it would seem that most of the issues that we have linked to self esteem and self worth such as crime, peer pressure, sexual immorality, health issues right down to our relationships with others would have laid the foundations for a society of people who are healthier in every respect of their lives. But the contrary has occurred, if self esteem was the remedy we should have more stable homes, men would be better husbands and fathers; women would be better wives and mothers there would subsequently be fewer divorces and broken homes, fewer conflicts between parents and children and the church would be a more peaceful, cooperative place to worship. But several decades have passed and things are actually worse!

This is the official psychological definition of self concept
-The self concept is how we think about and evaluate ourselves. To be aware of oneself is to have a concept of oneself.

The term self-concept is a general term used to refer to how someone thinks about or perceives themselves. It is an important term for both social psychology and humanism.

LOW SELF ESTEEM i.e. we have a negative view of ourselves. This tends to lead to

Lack of confidence
Want to be/look like someone else
Always worrying what others might think
Pessimism
HIGH SELF ESTEEM i.e. we have a positive view of ourselves. This tends to lead to

Confidence in our own abilities
Self acceptance
Not worrying about what others think
Optimism
These definitions seem on point but this is a highly flawed concept as it makes it appear as if to be confident in one’s own abilities and acceptant of one’s own sinful nature, if we are in fact to even view our nature as sinful, should be accepted. The Apostle Shaul in Romans 7:18 says, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing; for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good, I find not.” Believers need to be more aware of YAHWEH than they are of themselves and the only healthy concept of self, originates from a clear, well-defined identity in YAHWEH.
The challenge is not to esteem self neither is it whether or not we need to be self confident or have a healthy self concept; from the outset those things seem to provide suitable solutions except that we have A Maker of whom we are accountable and to whom we must ultimately yield or face eternal damnation. It is important that we see ourselves as YAHWEH sees us, no more and no less! I would like to submit to you that the answer is not whether we should esteem our selves or be confident in who we are as we, individually or collectively cannot provide the effective solutions, healing and deliverance via ourselves outside of YAHWEH. When we attempt as Believers to apply such carnal concepts to our lives, we eliminate the need for YAHWEH to rule and reign sovereign in our lives. Messiah tells us in Matthew 22:39 to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. We are able to provide that love as we understand that YAHWEH loves us, affirms and validates us and it is in HIM and HIM alone that we find our worth. Our worth is only as high as we value our role individually and collectively to the Kingdom as things that are not of worth to the Kingdom, YAH’s kingdom are nothing more than a waste of time and an act of futility. Our very lives are a waste of time and an act of futility, absolutely meaningless without HIM! Romans 12:1-3 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Esteeming YAHWEH provides for us a grounded, solid foundation that allows us to understand our place in HIM so that there is no need for jealousy, envy, competition or coveteous behavior because of someone else’s calling, assignment or blessing.

Believers are called to be self effacing which means to be modest, not drawing attention to oneself. None of the prophets, disciples or early apostles ever sought to esteem themselves, they knew that their identity had to be wrapped up in YAHWEH because the tasks that they were assigned to was much too formidable for them to perform in their own strength, esteeming who they were. Am I saying that we should not have a healthy concept of who we are? Certainly not but the Believer’s identity is enveloped in the greatness of who YAHWEH is through us not in who we are and what we believe that we can accomplish in our own strength. Self effacing people are actually thought to have greater confidence because they don’t need outward adulation, validation and affirmation to give them the confidence needed to be productive, effective people. Self effacing people, self effacing Believers are secure enough in who YAHWEH made them and what they are assigned to do and YAHWEH’s ability to perform and complete through them what HE has revealed and confirmed that HE would do so much so that they are not threatened or coveting or envious of anyone elses blessing, calling or position. They can root for, encourage and cheer you on knowing that it does not detract from them and their calling or blessing, in the least because the greater goal is not one’s own self or will but the goal is building YAH’s kingdom. If you do not know or are not sure of what your assignment is then it’s more than likely because you are not in your position. If you are jealous or coveting someone elses gift, blessing or assignment, it can more than likely be attributed to your lack of established identity and reality in YAHWEH. Every Believer has a role to play, a position to fill. When you allow YAHWEH to consume your life, HE will reveal HIS purpose and HIS plan for you and that is paramount as HIS will, plan and purpose for you is ALL that matters!

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Philippians 2:3

Our agenda, plans, motivations and inclinations that originate from a need to build self esteem and not esteem YAHWEH are of NO value to YAH’s kingdom. In fact self esteem at it’s humanistic core seeks to make a god out of the individual. Self esteem seeks a validation, notoriety or dare I say, fame for being who you are and doing what you do. These are foundational principals that are not of YAH’s kingdom but of the luciferian concepts of this world that call upon us to seek our own godhood over surrendering ourselves to a holy and almighty YAHWEH who knows us better than we know ourselves and desires for us far better things than we could ever even desire for ourselves. If no one remembers our names or titles, we should impact their lives enough that they will remember YAHWEH operating in and through us. We are a conduit and vessel that HE desires to perform HIS greatest works but HE wants us to humble ourselves, efface ourselves (Make oneself modestly insignificant or inconspicuous) so that HE gets the glory as HE proclaims in Scripture that HE will not share HIS glory with ANY man (Isaiah 42:8 and Isaiah 48:11).
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of YAHWEH, that he may exalt you in due time I Peter 5:6

Humble yourselves in the sight of the YAHWEH, and he shall lift you up. James 4:10

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Luke 14:10

YAH can give us grace when we humble ourselves but HE can do nothing but resist us when we are proud (Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6, I Peter 5:5) because pride always has it’s own agenda and it’s own desire to exalt the will of flesh over the will and way of YAHWEH, pride is therefore at the root of ALL sin and is actually not only a sin but it is referred to in Scripture (Proverbs 16:5) as an abomination! When people think of abominations they immediately think of sexual perversions such as sodomy and the like and while those things are abominations, pride is the abomination that leads to ALL other abominations! Pride caused Lucifer to esteem himself rather than YAHWEH to the extent that HE thought that HE should overthrow YAH’s kingdom in order to assert HIS own will and usurp YAH’s authority. That is no different than what we do everytime we refuse to surrender to HIS WILL! Nothing else matters outside of HIS WILL! NOTHING outside of HIS will is of any value to HIS KINGDOM. So every proclivity, notion, agenda, will, motivation and desire that we have that seeks to make what we want of greater significance than YAH’s will is a luciferian, idolatrous act and will put us at odds with YAHWEH and gives the enemy access to our lives. Pride is a set up! Pride is the leaven of the Pharisees that YAHSHUA warned HIS disciples to avoid. (Matthew 16) It is this very pride that caused the Pharisees to reject YAHSHUA and make Torah a burden by giving greater significance to the oral law or talmud.

We must abandon ALL that we are and ALL that we think we know to know YAHWEH! There is nothing that exists outside of HIM and HIS kingdom that is of value to us as HIS people. Every blessing and everything that we need is in HIM! HE is El Shaddai the ALL sufficient EL! Nothing of our flesh or of this world will fulfill us and if we seek after things that pander to our flesh and are patterned after this dark world no matter how positive they may seem, we will always end up lacking. But YAH’s desire is to fill us with the fullness of HIS grace so that every good plan that HE has for us will come to pass. But we must be willing to give up our “rights” to ourselves; the right that we have to protect ourselves, defend ourselves, save ourselves and deliver ourselves, because nothing we can do will ever be able to produce in us what HE can! When was the last time, if ever, have we asked YAHWEH, “How can I better serve YOU?” OR “How can I please YOU more?” This requires complete submission to The Ruach and submission to the process of sanctification which includes you dying to yourself, mortifying your flesh so that your heart is regenerated and you are transformed by the renewing of your mind and can take on the mind of YAHSHUA so that you can look and live more like HIM. When this transformation occurs serving YAHWEH maybe challenging but we will not perceive it to be an insurmountable, weighty task. We will through the lens of an humble heart and a submitted and committed mind realize that though the task is too great and insurmountable for us to take on in our own strength it is therefore important for us to submit to YAH’s authority so that the tasks and assignment ahead can be accomplished, to HIS glory, in HIS strength because that is the ONLY way that it can be successfully accomplished. The Apostle Shaul in Philippians 4:6-13 states,
Fret not about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things which ye have both learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace shall be with you. Not that I speak in respect to want, for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Messiah who strengthens me. This should be the goal of EVERY Believer, to allow YAHWEH to use us to make HIM famous and the only way we can successfully do that is to submit to HIS will and esteem HIM. HE said in John 12:32, “I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” If you are busy trying to lift you up and draw people to you, when will you ever have time to lift up YAH and draw people to HIS Kingdom? And if you have any apprehensions, please consider the consequences that being outside of HIS will presents! Even when you don’t understand praise HIM! When you have been torn down, exalt HIM and HE promises to lift you up! Love, then love some more because the love of YAHWEH in us will never cause us to be in lack for love! Encourage yourself in HIM because if you were of no worth to HIS kingdom, HE wouldn’t have given such a great sacrifice as HIS own life so that you could be victorious and free from slavery to your flesh! You are HIS child and you are precious to HIM. We can be our own worst enemy because we refuse HIS will and insist on being slaves to our flesh! I John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world!

There will be no true peace outside of HIS will. There will be no true joy outside of HIS will. There is NO real life outside of HIS kingdom! For everything that attempts to undermine and subvert HIS will and authority, will ultimately like Lucifer, be destroyed. But everything of YAH’s kingdom is eternal! Let us esteem YAHWEH so that we will be known of HIM and legitimately named as citizens of HIS KINGDOM!

Submit yourselves therefore to YAHWEH. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to YAHWEH, and HE will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:7-8

Todah to YAH’s talmidim! Shalom!

Marantha!
